Established in 1965, HAWS assists over 6,000 animals and welcomes more than 31,000 human visitors annually. As an "open admissions" shelter we lead the community in animal welfare and assure sanctuary for all animals in need, regardless of age, health or temperament. HAWS is a non-profit, entirely donor-fund organization with an active humane education program, and both wildlife and companion animal rescue services for Waukesha County.

We're taking a few deep breaths at HAWS before launching into the holiday season. But we have lots to do and to look forward to...
The Friends of HAWS annual Holiday Bazaar & Bake Sale is this Saturday, November 6th at our shelter. Shop early for the pets and pet-lovers in your life! The Bazaar is full of great pet-related and seasonal merchandise, and is also a super place to satisfy your sweet tooth. Make plans to come by for lunch and do a little browsing and buying to support HAWS.
TTouch for Little Critters will be presented on Sunday, November 7th. If you have a house rabbit, guinea pig or other small animal in your life, this seminar shows you great ways to promote their well-being and lessen their stress for visits to the vet, groomer, etc. Come to think of it, we could all use a little de-stressing...
Of COURSE HAWS' Mobile Adoption Center has a busy month planned! Rub-a-dub all pups in the tub for our Dog Wash at Petlicious Spa on Sunday, November 14th. Dine out for HAWS at the Pewaukee Applebees on Monday, November 15th. We'll be joining in the fun for Muskego's Country Christmas when we set up shop at Pet Supplies 'N More on Saturday, November 20th. Finally, we'll be making "black Friday" a celebration with a holi-day-of-fun at Petco of Waukesha on November 26th. Throw in stops at Brookfield Square, Petco of Germantown AND Delafield, and a parade appearance or two...well, you can understand why it is called our MOBILE Adoption Center!
Our calendar is filled out with dog training classes and our famous "Keep your Puppy and Your Sanity" seminar (11/14), along with volunteer orientations, the monthly Friends meeting (11/10), little pet pedicures and more. Two feet or four, paws or claws - HAWS has something for YOU this November!
By the way - we've STILL got lots of kittens available for adoption. So, now you can adopt a kitten at HAWS...and get the 2nd kitten at no charge! Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, the first round of vaccinations, wellness exam, microchip I.D. A great time to enjoy twice the fun at 1/2 the price!
We'll take a break for a moment from planning for this weekend's HAWS Homecoming event (you've heard about HAWS Homecoming, right?) to tell you about another neat upcoming HAWS event.
Holiday Pet Photos are coming!
No, we haven't even celebrated Halloween yet, but when you use pictures of your pet(s) for your Holiday Greeting cards and whatnot, you need them early. So, think snow for a few minutes, get Fido and Fluffy all gussied up in their Winter finery, and c'mon over for a professional portrait.
Here's all the "poop" you need to know:
- Pictures will be taken by members of the Unlimited Vision photography club, with all proceeds from the photos supporting the animals, programs and services at HAWS. This is a Friends of HAWS-sponsored event!
- Appointments are available on both Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.
- The $30 fee includes the photography sitting, one (1) 8”x10” print and two (2) 5”x7” prints. Pet owners will receive a CD of their photos for an additional donation of $5.
- To reserve their session, pet owners should contact HAWS at 262-542-8851. Sittings will be in 15 minute increments.
