Established in 1965, HAWS assists over 6,000 animals and welcomes more than 31,000 human visitors annually. As an "open admissions" shelter we lead the community in animal welfare and assure sanctuary for all animals in need, regardless of age, health or temperament. HAWS is a non-profit, entirely donor-fund organization with an active humane education program, and both wildlife and companion animal rescue services for Waukesha County.

HAWS is celebrating this holiday season with a month full of festive fun and fundraising for the paws and claws at HAWS!
Celebrate Happy “Howl”-idays with HAWS: Subaru City of Milwaukee and HAWS team up to host a Share the Love event to benefit the shelter on Saturday, December 11th from 11am - 2pm at HAWS, 701 Northview Rd., Waukesha. The event features a donation drive for HAWS led by Subaru City; adoption specials; pet merchandise and information from HAWS business partners such as Petlicious Dog Bakery, WisconsinWags.com and Camp Bow Wow Waukesha; treats and presents for pets AND people; I.D. tags/microchipping; a visit from Santa and a coloring contest. Information on this and all HAWS events is available at www.hawspets.org or by calling HAWS: 262-542-8851.
Give a Gift of Love that Lasts the Whole Year Through. Community support ensures HAWS is able to continue offering all the shelter’s important animal services and programs. Show love, teach love, practice love, share love…all by giving a donation to HAWS today. Log onto www.hawspets.org and choose DONATE. Honor a favorite person or pet with a donation and they’ll be remembered with a “gift” ornament on the Holiday Tribute Tree in the HAWS shelter lobby.
And there are MORE ways to support the HAWS cause throughout the month of December: Purchase an order of Nachos Navidad® at Taco John’s, 317 N. Grand Ave., Waukesha and 25 cents is donated to HAWS! Donate new/gently used towels and pet toys to HAWS through a drive sponsored by Sitting Dogg – log onto their website, www.sittingdogg.com, for item drop-off sites. Camp Bow Wow – Waukesha will give a free pet bath for pet food donations worth $5 or more – visit their location at 1707 Paramount Ct., Waukesha to take part in this special.
By the way - With winter looming, remember to keep your pets safe from the cold. All pets should stay indoors when the temperature dips, other than for short walks and potty breaks. Clean salt off sensitive paw pads, check ears for frostbite and have short-coated dogs wear a coat or sweater during walks. Make sure outside water dishes have not frozen over. Store poisonous antifreeze out of reach and clean up spills. Bang on outside car hoods to scare away any hidden animals before starting your vehicle’s engine. Make it a happy holiday season for all!
On Wednesday I joined HAWS' Mobile Adoptions Coordinator Lisa on a field trip to Arrowhead High School. As you may have read in a past blog, the AHS DECA students decided to raise money and awareness for HAWS as part of their homecoming celebration, "Hawkfest."
The students and their faculty advisor presented HAWS with a check for $2000! Pictured at left are several of the DECA members, their faculty advisor Steve, HAWS adoptable puppy Trick and Lisa - gladly accepting this truly "big" check.
We are honored and excited to work with groups on events - the Arrowhead DECA group being a shining example of what can be accomplished. The students did all the "heavy lifting" so to speak - as Lisa said, we just showed up at Hawkfest with our adoptables and had a great time!
Thank you, Arrowhead High School DECA students for making us a part of your 2010 Hawkfest. You did a phenomenal job with your event and we were proud to join in the fun. Moms and dads, the kids are more than alright - they're awesome. Just ask us at HAWS and we'll attest. Youth rocks!
By the way - if you'd like to do a "fun"draiser for HAWS or have the Mobile Adoptions Center visit your business, event, festival or meeting, please contact us. Lisa can be reached at email@example.com or at 262-542-8851, x201. Be sure to schedule early...dates are filling quickly.
