Person Impersonating a Fire Inspector
Recently a person has taken cash from several businesses in the greater Milwaukee area by impersonating a Fire Inspector. He arrives at the door and verbally identifies himself as the Fire Inspector and states he needs to check fire extinguishers. He is allowed into the business and left unescorted and not long after he leaves the business discovers that he has taken cash that is left in an unlocked safe or otherwise unlocked and unattended.
The most recent reported incident took place in Brookfield where he was described as a black male, mid 30's - mid 40's, 6'2", 180lbs, wearing work style clothing and left in a late 1990's to early 2000's white Cadillac Deville after taking $600 in cash.
Business Email Alerting System
Two years ago the Wauwatosa Police Department's Community Support Division instituted a business email alerting system in which we will send out an email alert containing important law enforecment information to the businesses in Wauwatosa. Just today I sent out an email alert containing information from my last blog about the Fire Inspector Imposter and to my disappointment I received over 100 "Undeliverables" in return. This means that over 100 businesses that signed up for this service did not receive this information. This system is great when the information needed to send the alerts out is current!
If you are already enrolled and did not receive this latest alert or if you would like to enroll please email me at dsemega@wauwatosa.net and in the subject line put "Business Alert - New" or "Business Alert - Change" and then in the body of the message all I need is a contact name and the proper email to send the messages to.
Bradley decision announcement and other tidbits
The WIAA heard Wauwatosa East's appeal on sophomore transfer student Larry Bradley today and will make the announcement of their decision sometime next week.
To quickly summarize, Bradley, whose parents still live in Milwaukee, moved in with his uncle Marshall Williams, who lives in Wauwatosa. Bradley, a 6-3 guard, started for Milwaukee Vincent last season and averaged 7.3 points per game. He is considered one of the top sophomores in Wisconsin.

National Flu Vaccination Week
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has designated the week of December 8-14 as National Influenza Vaccination Week. In fact, the 9th of December is Children's Vaccination Day. This announcement is designed to highlight the importance of flu vaccination. It is not too late to protect yourself and your family. While there has already been sporadic flu activity in Wisconsin, the peak incidence of flu typically occurs in January and February before tapering off in March.
The flu is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract and it can be a serious illness. The flu kills more Americans every year than all other vaccine-preventable diseases combined. Symptoms can include fever, headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and muscle aches. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are also common symptoms in children. Flu is often confused with a common cold but flu symptoms are usually more severe and complications can result in death. Children have the highest chance of getting sick from the flu because their immune systems are less developed.

Early winter season musings...
Most of the Brookfield and Wauwatosa High School basketball teams will be playing their final conference games of the year this week before taking some time off for Christmas and then returning for some holiday tournaments or some individual non-conference games.

"God gave us Gabe twice"
I had the opportunity to meet a lucky little boy several weeks back. As I drove to his parents' New Berlin home, all I knew was he suffered a brain injury back in September during a car-verse-bike accident. Walking into these types of situations with little to no details, you never know quite what to expect.
As it turns out, Gabe is doing better than any of his doctors could have predicted. Surrounded by a loving family and several friends, he's made an almost complete recovery. One of his favorite things to do is play cello.

The Bucks Library Reading Challenge!

Beginning on January 2, 2009, children in third through tenth grade can read books, magazines, or newspapers in order to win a ticket to see the Milwaukee Bucks. North Shore hoops races to be harrowing this winter
Between the heart-stopping North Shore Conference win the Germantown boys basketball team had over Whitefish Bay on Dec. 16, and the excitement-filled decision over nonconference border rival Menomonee Falls on Dec. 20, there was supposed to have been another game.
Basketball thoughts into the New Year
The Wauwatosa East boys went 1-1 in the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Tournament and it is easier to figure out a Rubik's Cube than the Red Raiders rotation.
TE coach Tim Arndorfer has about an 11-man rotation right now and he needs to get his rotation down to eight or nine."Yeah, it a perfect world that would be great," he said after the win over Pius XI on Saturday. "But we are still trying to find out who to start, who to play together. We have a lot of talent but no one is really stepping up."
The one player whose role has been defined is senior forward Eric Williams (13.6 PPG average), who scored 38 points in the WBY Tournament (20 and 18). Time after time, the Red Raiders gave him the ball and he went to the hoop, even against the giants (7 players 6-5 or taller) of Humble Christian Life of Texas last Friday. Williams is fearless and he is a great anchor for the Red Raiders, but they will need more to be successful.Arndorfer needs his team to find its 3-point shooting which has been missing or this season will not be as positive an experience as most people are looking for.One final note - Barret Powell played well over the weekend, giving Arndorfer a rare hard-nosed defender who can guard a point guard or a post. He also got more involved in the offense a little more.@@@Crosstown at Tosa West, second-year coach Mike Landisch as turned the offense loose and the result is a 3-2 record going into Monday's game against unbeaten Milwaukee Washington at the Luke Homan Memorial Tournament at Brookfield Central. More importantly, the Trojans are unbeaten in Woodland play and open the second half at Pewaukee (6-1, 3-0) on Jan. 6.Bendell Lee, Andy Minkley are Ray Sterling, Jr. are all averaging in double figures. But Sam Krenzien's floor play and Barry Ballinger's defense and rebounding are just as important to West's success.
