Established in 1965, HAWS assists over 6,000 animals and welcomes more than 31,000 human visitors annually. As an "open admissions" shelter we lead the community in animal welfare and assure sanctuary for all animals in need, regardless of age, health or temperament. HAWS is a non-profit, entirely donor-fund organization with an active humane education program, and both wildlife and companion animal rescue services for Waukesha County.

Always-on-the-Go August
HAWS gives new meaning to the phrase “always on the go” with a busy and fun August.
The 4th Annual HAWS Pet Fair in Menomonee Falls is Saturday, August 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rotary Park (Fond du Lac Ave. west of Lilly Rd.). This FREE, pets-welcome event features all things for the pet and pet lover, from demonstrations to information to shopping to adoptable pets to food, fun and prizes. Donate an item from HAWS’ Wish List and receive a free 5”x7” pet portrait at the photo booth.
On Saturday, August 27,Ride for Rover will rumble through the area for a second straight year. Starting at Hal’s Harley-Davidson at 10:00 a.m. and ending with a picnic at HAWS from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., the Ride is open not just to motorcycle riders but to anyone who would like to support HAWS and co-host Friends of M.A.D.A.C.C./B.A.D. Information and registration is available on the event website, www.rideforrover.com. Details are also available at hawspets.org. The participant fees of $20/driver and $10/additional rider include the official Ride for Rover II t-shirt. Prizes at the picnic include a flat screen TV and tabs at local favorite bars.
HAWS’ Mobile Adoption Center visits Tazino’s in Menomonee Falls for a dine-out fundraiser (8/1 - TONITE! 4-8pm!) and Petlicious Dog Bakery & Pet Spa (8/6) for good eats and good times! HAWS adoptable pets will cheer on the Junkyard Dogs Football Team (8/6 & 8/13) and party at Muskegofest (8/28). Purchase WI K9 Sport Show (8/27-28) tickets at HAWS…and $1 of the ticket price is donated to the shelter! Rounding out the HAWS’ month are the Friends of HAWS planning meeting (8/10), Small Pet Pedicures (8/10 at Pet Supplies Plus & 8/20 at HAWS) and Cat Pedicures (8/13), the First Aid for Pets seminar (8/20) and GPA-WI Greyhound meet’n’greet (8/27). By the way - Save the date! HAWS’ annual fall fundraiser is fast approaching. This year Fashion for Paws for HAWS is on Friday, October 14, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. The cocktails and appetizers event features a runway show with styles from local shoppes Boutique B’Lou, Faye’s, Georgie, M.E.Lou and Next Door.
