High Speed Rail & Night Out
There are two events this week of special interest to all Brookfield residents.
High Speed Rail Information Session
There will be a special open house informational session titled "Wisconsin High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail - From Vision to Reality" on Tuesday, August 3, 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Brookfield Elementary School, 2530 N Brookfield Road.
There is a proposal to construct a rail station on Brookfield Road, just north of this school. The Common Council saw a presentation at its July 20 meeting that may be viewed on the city web site:
- Slide show (PDF file) about the train shown to the Brookfield Common Council on July 20, 2010 by Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials
- Brookfield Common Council agenda packet for July 20, 2010, pages 5 to 10 (PDF file)
The meeting will be staffed by people who can answer your questions and record your comments. The city has taken no official stand on the rail system or constructing a station other than to say they should be studied carefully before making a decision.
National Night Out
Brookfield's 12th annual National Night Out will be held on Wednesday, August 4, from 5:00-9:00 PM at the Brookfield Civic Plaza and at the Public Safety Building (2100 N Calhoun Road).
This event has become quite popular, in spite of invariably being the hottest day of the summer (or so it seems!) This year will include a demonstration of the problems that arise when you try to drive and text message at the same time. You may read more details at:
I've attended several of these and they are always worthwhile.
