Can't miss music

If you're tired of handing out candy and looking for something to do on Sunday night, you can't do much better than heading down to the Pabst Theatre to watch The Swell Season in concert.  If you've already seen the film Once then you probably needn't read any further, but for those not in the know, The Swell Season is the musical duo of The Frames frontman Glen Hansard and Czech singer and pianist Marketa Irglova.  The two are best known for their starring roles in the aforementioned 2007 indie musical, with their collaboration "Falling Slowly" winning the Oscar for Best Original Song.

The 39-year-old Hansard and 21-year-old Irglova released their second studio album, Strict Joy, just yesterday, and whereas the Once soundtrack told the story of their burgeoning love, Strict Joy tells of its unwraveling.  Really stirring, beautiful music.

  3. Jeff,
Thanks for the tip. I'm always looking for discerning opinions from younger people regarding good music. Who are some of your other favorites?
