Now...The Truth
I have been a citizen of Brookfield for 24 years and a member of the Brookfield Common Council for eight years, including two years as president. No 2011-12 Elmbrook Contract Approval yet
I just returned late last evening from a warm 10 day vacation in sunny Arizona. This morning my blood ran cold when I read that the Elmbrook School Board has a contract all ready for approval for the 2011-12 school year. As a candidate for the Elmbrook School Board in the April election, it gave me a real jolt.. Given the turmoil in Madison and the looming deficit of about $8 million next year, no one has the slightest idea where the dollars will fall. Ironically the Board has appointed a citizens committee to study moving central administration out of the Hope Ave. building. The building is mold -infested, sits partially on a flood plain which makes it virtually worthless, is an energy hog and looks like it will be around for another winter. It should be sold as soon as possible. It seems the Board can decide on a teachers contract without thinking, yet spend years trying to decide what to do with a dilapidated building. Sell it and rent office space! Sources tell me rental space would be the cheapest option. The Elmbrook School Board should, under no circumstances approve the teachers contracts. The new board will have to deal with this when sstate aid has been determined, which may be many months from now. Resist the pressure from the teacher union. Many of our past contracts have been approved a year or more after the contract year commences.
No Correction or Retraction re. Teachers Contract Nec.
My statement that the School Board board offered 2011-12 contracts to teachers and nurses was clearly printed in the March 10,2011 issue of BrookfieldNow, page 4 under GOVERNMENT WATCH. The article states in part : "School Board Offers contracts to teachers, nurses". "Elmbrook School Board on Tuesdaty offered contracts to 466 full-time teachers and Nurses and 25 part-time teachers for the 2011-12 school year." I've read the article over and over trying to get a different meaning. The message is the same; teachers and nurses were offered a contract.! Period. The School District needs to do some serious damage control and owes owes the community an apology
Where Oh where Did Tommy Go?
Governor Thompson ruled longer than any governor of the state of Wisconsin. Tommy liked working with everyone including the Democrats and always embraced the people. Above all, he accomplished major projects when many Republicans called him "TommyThe Taxer". He got things done inspiring the will of the people. Finally, he served our country with distinction in the federal government for four years
Here we have Mr. Walker who has not proposed one thing that the average taxpayer could get excited about. He has sparked controversey unheard of in peoples' memory He appears on news conferences in his unemotional , expressionless monotone, and never speaking about anything but employee benefits when the state is far from broke and there are no new jobs in sight and some are trickling away. Now the court has ordered an injunction and the AG claims the law is legal . Let's hope for something better.
