SMV 6TH GRADE GIRLS WIN 1ST PLACE AT HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC COMPETITION

A team of 6th grade girls from St. Mary's Visitation won first place overall at the "Excel-A-Thon" academic competition recently hosted at Divine Savior-Holy Angels High School.  More than 300 junior high students from 34 area elementary schools competed by grade level in the areas of math, science, English, social studies and current events.  To win the overall honors, the team members took a written test, scoring well in all subjects and taking first place among all schools in science and social studies and third place in math and English.

Katie M won first place overall for sixth grade students.  To win the individual honor, Katie had high scores on her written test and placed first among all sixth graders in social studies and third in both English and current events.  Other top individual scores were earned by: Margaret B, who placed first among all sixth graders in science ; and Nora B, who placed second among all sixth graders  in math.

Other team members representing SMV included sixth grader Kelly A and seventh graders Elizabeth G, Martha L, Anne S and Maddie T.  Congratulations to SMV students on their outstanding performance!

KINDERGARTEN'S 5:11 ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER AND BUILD EACH OTHER UP!

During the month of May the Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs have chosen to focus our service project on something close to our hearts: other children!  Our focus will be to support the Ronald McDonald House which helps families whose lives have been disrupted as a result of their children's injury or illness. They provide housing and outreach programs right down the street from us, across from Children's Hospital. Please help us support this local charity that does so much to help children!

We will be doing a fundraiser with two activities:

  • $1.00 Jean Day will be Wednesday, May 23rd. Students may wear their 5:11 t-shirt and jeans when they donate a dollar or more for this charity.
  • Collect your pop tabs! Soda can pop tabs will be collected from May 1st through May 23rd in each classroom for the Ronald McDonald House. The class with the most pop tabs will earn a special treat!

FIELD DAY IS MAY 18TH!

Daisies Help Clean Up!

IT'S BIRTHDAY BOOK TIME

Each year our school library invites families to participate in our "Birthday Book" project. We are able to prepurchase books at discount prices and then encourage families to buy and donate a book to the school library. This can be to commemorate a birthday in the upcoming school year, to remember a special event such as First Communion or Graduation, or to honor a deceased member of the family. A special label will be placed in the book and the books will be available for check-out when we come back to school in the fall. If you are interested, stop in the library anytime or find Miss Benson to help you. The books will be on display in the library from May 7th until June 1st.
