The Boys of Summer

The Boys of Summer are now in spring training to fine tune their skills for the return of our national pastime. For its one, two, three strikes you're out at the old ball game. Soon there will be home runs and Texas league singles, double plays and stolen bases. BASEBALL is coming back with a new spirit.

There will be beer and brats, cheers and boos and the likes of Braun, Hardy and Fielder to thrill the fans . There will be Bernie Brewer, Bob Uecker and the racing sausages to savor.

City Reports Budget Shortfalls

The City of Brookfield Finance Director has reported to the Finance Committee that the City "may" face budget shortfalls of $915,000 by the end of 2009. If my memory is correct the budget was recently passed with much discussion and criticism. Now, before it is projected that the Budget was wrong, or whatever nomenclature you attach to it, some answers are needed. What the Director did not state is what services and line items will be short, what is the contingency fund amount to cover the losses, are these real losses or just paper losses on a budget form and why this is being reported 9 months before the end of the year ?

If it walks like a duck it is a duck, and if it looks like politics it is politics, to install warnings of trouble ahead so certain officials can avoid accepting responsibility in the upcoming 2010 elections.
