Another Successful and Entertaining "Vianney Varieties"
St. John Vianney students in fifth through eighth grades are invited annually to participate in “Vianney Varieties”. The talent and variety show is spearheaded by SJV mom Sheila Barker and her Fine Arts Committee. This year’s show was as entertaining as ever.
Two eighth graders emceed the show with witty jokes and stunts in between each act. Some students chose to perform solos – some sang with accompaniment and one seventh grader even played her own piano accompaniment while singing. There were dance routines and many group skits. Gym teacher Mr. Jackson is always a good sport in a skit that pokes a little fun at himself. Fifth grade teacher Mrs. Goss even helped throw whipped cream in Mr. Jackson’s face. Many other teachers got in on the fun – even principal Mrs. Pyzyk participated (well, there was a student dressed up as Mrs. Pyzyk for a skit, but the real Mrs. Pyzyk was on stage too). When the first grade students saw their teachers Mrs. Albright and Mrs. Williams on stage, the screaming enthusiasm from the primary children took over from the show.
Some sixth graders did a “flash mob” skit, pretending they were in the car line at the end of the school day. The “Space Unicorn” dance by some eighth grade boys riled up the audience when they started shooting their marshmallow guns into the crowd. Other eighth graders performed a skit called “8th Grade Memories of SJV” where they acted out kindergarten through eighth grade with memories of teachers and activities. They finished with a song at the end telling everyone that “S-J-V will always be in our H-E-A-R-T.” That kind of got the crowd a little choked up – the memory lane they shared with us and then reminded us they will graduate at the end of the year.
Although not on stage, the crew for Vianney Varieties was impressive. Students ran the sound board, lighting, managed props and clean-up. Vianney Varieties really showcased some great talent, gave students the opportunity to perform in front of a large crowd, and it showed off some teachers that clearly love their jobs and have fun teaching at SJV.
