Elmbrook: Time to close two schools
I get so embarrassed for our school board. Instead of making a common sense decision about closing two elementary schools they embarked upon a study where the options included closing Dixon or Brookfield Elementary.
You know. Those new grade schools with enormous gymnasiums and air conditioning that taxpayers haven't finished paying off yet.
It's super stupid everyone-should-get-a-trophy-for-trying thinking to put those two schools into the mix of possible closures. I'm more inclined to buy the argument that Swanson should go instead given the retail potential of that property's location. We have, however, spent a boatload of money on that facility. Also, the value of that land would be predicated upon another I-94 interchange at Calhoun, and the interchange has never made sense to me.
Anyway, it's time for the Elmbrook School Board to get it done. Close Tonawanda and Hillside and get it over with, just as the report suggests. In language the often liberal school board might understand: Pull off the Band-Aid. Eat our peas.
