Cindy moved to Brookfield in 1994 with her husband and three children in tow. It's been a very interesting seventeen years.
You'll find it right there on page 108 of the May 23, 2011 edition:
Median home price: $200,000-$399,999
#4 Brookfield, WI
Not Elmbrook, mind you, and the articled is titled Top Education Towns, but I'm pretty sure they are talking about us, the city dwellers, who also reside in the Elmbrook school district.
Here are some other details they offer:
Median Home Price: $241,260
Fast facts: 7,363 students in district
A middle-class suburb of Milwaukee; per-pupil spending of $11,124 is above the state's average.
That's all you get in print. You can always go the the article on the web for more details, including a little methodology.
No, no study is perfect, but Brookfield is the only Wisconsin offering.
I'll confess I've not alway been a great cheerleader for the district. I do take a little umbrage with the idea that spending more than the state average per student is supposed to be a good thing. But, I'll also tell you my children left East with great educations from great educators that prepared them extremely well for college.
So how do you feel when a ranking like this hits a major magazine or paper? It does count for something as people research the possibilities when they are making a move.
More about that tomorrow.
